The Seaton Carew Golf Course, originally designed in 1874, has been refined over the years to offer a challenging yet fair test for golfers of any ability. This ethos was one of Dr MacKenzie’s core principles as a golf architect.
Uniquely, we currently have 22 holes on our links. This is part of our own evolution as a club. In 1891 we extended the course from 14 to 18 holes, and in 1924 Dr Alister MacKenzie redesigned the links into what we see today. However, in the early 1970’s during the expansion of nearby industry, the club chose to build four additional holes on the Eastern boundary of the links, fearing that the land to the south would be at risk. Frank Pennink was tasked with the creation of these new holes, however the land to the south was never lost.
As a 22 hole venue, we offer two different course routings throughout the year. The Old Course is our winter routing and during the summer months we move over to The Micklem course.
