The 2024 Seaton Salver took place on Saturday 1st June when 60 of the region's elite golfers pitted themselves against the test of the 10th oldest golf course in England and Mother Nature. In their own way, both conspired to make it an extreme challenge with fast running greens and penal rough alongside a stiff North-Easterly wind. Some rose to the challenge but sadly many struggled and fell by the wayside. There were just four rounds under par in the morning and only one in the afternoon with Jack Maxey, from Hornsea in East Yorkshire, proving the most resilient. Just two strokes separated the top four players making for an exciting and at times, nail-biting finish. Whilst many found the conditions difficult they were full of praise for the presentation of the course and our thanks go to our fantastic greenkeeping team who worked tirelessly to ensure everything was top notch. We hope to see many of those who took part back here in late July for the English Amateur Championships and thank them for supporting our annual scratch event.
These are the prize winners and players may only win one prize.

Our first ever 36-hole scratch event for elite Lady golfers took place on Wednesday 29th May. With the event being brand new it was not surprising that we had a relatively small field, however that wasn't reflected in the standard of golf. All eleven competitors battled a westerly breeze which increased in strength as the day progressed and on average the afternoon scores were definitely higher than the morning. The talking point of round one was a magnificent 65 by Lucy Jamieson from Heswall Golf Club on the Wirral, which is believed to be a Ladies' course record. This left Bishop Auckland's Jessica Hall needing to make up a 4-shot deficit in the remaining 18-holes to be in with a chance of taking the title. With both players in the final group, the small crowd gathered around the 18th green were on tenterhooks to see how it had all played out. In the end, the competition was decided on the best second round with both players finishing the 36-holes on 141, and it was a round of 72 which gave the title to Jessica Hall. Our thanks to all those who took part and supported the players and our great green staff for presenting the course in superb condition.

The 2024 Junior Open took place on Monday 27th May with more than fifty youngsters taking part. The stiff breeze made conditions fairly difficult especially on the back 9 with many competitors struggling to keep their scores in check. However, despite the difficulties most of the youngsters enjoyed the challenge and we hope to see them again next year. The overall winner of the Junior Salver was Bradley Quayle from Seascale in Cumbria with a very impressive 74 and Durham City's Kayla Hall had the best gross for the girls with an 80.
A personal account will be set up in the Pro Shop for all prize winners.
